In accordance with EU regulations, Air France is required to compensate passengers up to $650 per person in the event of flight cancellations announced less than 14 days before the scheduled departure.Under EU Regulation 261/2004, Air France must compensate passengers for involuntary flight cancellations unless the airline notifies you at least 14 days before departure or the disruption is caused by “extraordinary circumstances” (e.g., severe weather, air traffic control strikes). Compensation amounts are based on flight distance: for flights up to 1,500 km, you’re entitled to €250; for intra‑EU flights over 1,500 km and all other flights between 1,500 km and 3,500 km, it’s €400; and for flights over 3,500 km, it’s €600. These sums may be halved if Air France offers re‑routing that gets you to your final destination no more than two hours after the original arrival time for short‑haul flights, or no more than four hours for long‑haul flights. In addition to cash compensation (which must be offered unless you expressly agree to a voucher), the airline must provide meals, refreshments, two free telephone calls[1_83 38 45 18 58 (or equivalent communications), and if an overnight stay is necessary hotel accommodation and transfers.
